2 Month Check-up

Holding her head up on her own.

All this playing has worn me out, think I will just sleep here!!!

In the car seat after a trip to Richmond

Marty and I took Sophia to the doctor yesterday for her 2 month check up. She now weighs 11 pounds and 9 ounces which puts her in the 65th percentile. And she is 22.5 inches long putting her in the 51st percentile. Everything else checked out fine, and she was very happy to be at the doctor. We have to go for shots soon, so I am sure she will not be so happy and neither will Mommy and Daddy.

Sophia is cooing and smiling so much. My friend, Debbie, was over visiting today and Sophie was just smiling at me when she was holding her! She is able to recognize me and Marty now, and likes to see us - most of the time-ha!!! Sometimes she just wants us to leave her alone which really hurts our feelings. Sophie must be growing through a growth spurt as she is sleeping a lot. She will even fall asleep while I am making faces and talking to her as well as when she is playing under the play mat. At first all this sleeping bothered me, but after talking to many moms apparently it is normal, so now I am trying to get some things done around the house. If we go any where, Sophia is asleep as soon as we hit the road, then she sleeps for a while after we get home. It is crazy!!! She is also doing much better at night. Generally she is only up one time a night about 3:30 and then will sleep until about 7:30. Then she wants to play after eating, making all her cute noises!
I have to return to work in about 3 weeks. I will have to only be back for about 4 weeks- that snow and Sophia arriving early really messed me up. The good news is that there is only 4 weeks left and of that only one week is a full week - the rest are four day weeks. It will fly by and I will be home with Sophie again until August. We won't use child care until August, thanks to Nana and Grandmom!!!

It's hard to be a Pug!!!

It was a hard week to be a pug last week for Allie. It all started on Monday when she decided she would eat an ant trap. Luckily this did not affect her- no sickness at all! On Wednesday, I took Jasper and Allie to Richmond to the vet while Marty stayed home with Sophia. Let me just say, it is no small feat to take both dogs to the vet at the same time. They want to check out everything in opposite directions when you get them out of the car, plus they are so loud in the car it hurts your ears. The loudness is from the excitement of getting to go somewhere- you can only imagine the snorting and loud breathing going on.

On a previous trip for shots Allie had an allergic reaction to the yearly shots. Now, the vet always gives her a shot of Benadryll to counteract the allergy. No big deal- right? Wrong- we get home and Allie is doing fine, but as I am fixing dinner I look over at her and her whole face is completely swollen which is very strange looking on a pug. I proceed to give her another Benadryll, because I know this is what the vet will tell me to do. The swelling goes down, but the vomiting starts, about three times in a row. And she is acting VERY weird plus not walking right after a while. So, I call the vet, and they suggest bringing her in. So at 10:00, it's off to Richmond to see the vet. They give her a shot to help the inflammation of her airway, which thankfully works. The next day she basically sleeps all day which is pretty normal.

Saturday morning arrives, I am feeding Sophie and it is about 3:00 am, Allie vomits at my feet. I clean it up and go back to bed. About the time Marty is leaving for work, it happens again. Then a few more times later in the morning. OH, NO!!! I call the vet, and they are concerned since it has happened so many times. Come on in now, they say. I call Wanda and she comes right over to stay with Sophie (can you imagine trying to get inside with a crazy dog and a baby carrier??? It would be worse than the two pugs! Thanks again, Wanda!!!) After the exam and blood work, the vet really can't find anything wrong with her other than maybe a little stomach virus. (really? dogs get stomach viruses? Who knew??) We are sent home with two different medicines and she had a shot to help with the nausea. She is fine now, thankfully, and has not had another episode since Saturday. She has not left my side though. If I am on the couch, she wants to be right beside me. If I go to the kitchen, she is right behind me. If I am in the shower, she is right outside the door! It is about to wear me out, but I know she will forget about being sick soon and not be so close to me.

Just thought I would share Allie's difficult week. We are just so happy that she is ok! Marty and I take Sophia to see the doctor this week for her 2 month appoinment. I am so excited to how much she has grown!

Weekend On The Go!!!

What a busy weekend we had! On Saturday, it started with Kitefest at Jacobson Park. Kate, Chris, Morgan, Warren, Sophia, and I met Meiko and Lyla and Bill, Cindy and their new addition, Corianne at the park to fly kites! It was very fun even if the wind really wasn't the most cooperative at first. It was a perfect day to be outside and enjoy the day.

Next stop we had was the wedding shower for Whitney. It was a great time hosted by Kelly and Wanda! Sophia was great the entire shower, she basically slept the time which was much better than crying that I had imagined would happen. It was nice to see some family that we usually don't see so they could meet little Sophia!

On Sunday, we had another big day. We headed north so Sophie could meet her great grandmother in Ohio. Mom rode with me in case we ran into any problems, she could be there to help me. Sophie slept the entire way until we exited the interstate in Dayton. Granny was so happy to see us all, but I think especially Sophie.
Finally on the way but home, we stopped to see LeeAnn and Brett in Lebanon. It was a nice visit as her dad and Wendy were there from Florida. Like I said earlier, it was certainly a weekend on the go and Sophia was a trooper. She was never very fussy and happy to meet all the new people in all the different places.

Almost a smile

Four Generations
Next week we go for Sophia's 2 month appointment. I am very anxious to see how much she has grown in the last 6 weeks. Another note, Sophie smiled at me last week for the first time on purpose!!! It was so sweet, my heart melted, and made all the long days totally worth it!!!

We have had a long couple of weeks- at least in the evening hours. I quit nursing Sophia and started her on formula full time. She began very fussy and inconsolable especially in the evenings. I was convinced she had colic, however, when we went to the doctor last week the pediatrician thinks it is an allergy to soy in the formula and a touch of acid reflux. So we had switched formulas and started on Zantac for the reflux. It has seemed to help so far as Sophie is not nearly as fussy as she once was- thank goodness! She is still fussy in the evening which I hear is quite common but it doesn't make it any easier! We are going to try a couple of different options tonight if she starts fussing to see if we can comfort her. (I hope it works!!!) Marty and I are very thankful that she is good during the night hours. Generally I give her a bath, put some lotion on her, and put her in the crib and she goes right to sleep- pretty impressive!! I can't wait to start reading to her, I have tried but she is not interested yet. She usually sleeps for about 4-5 hours then wants to eat and goes right back to sleep. About 3 hours later, she is ready to eat again, and back to sleep. Somehow we have really lucked out with this, and I hope it continues.

Sophia is not a good napper either. During the day, she tries to stay awake as much as possible after her 9:00 feeding. If she does fall asleep during the day it is on me or Marty, then when you go to put her in the crib, she starts to cry! I hope this is just a phase and will begin to nap on her own soon. She is currently asleep in the bouncy seat, so maybe this will be the place for naps soon! I could get some much done if she were to cooperate with this just a little :) I do love to hold her though and watch her sleep, she is just so cute!!!

Here are some pictures that I have meant to post for a while!!

Sophie is really starting to like the bouncy chair. She is currently asleep in it now!

I love my nana! I love this one since Sophia is looking right at Nana!

GO CATS!!!
